Drycleaning & Laundry Institute Supports

Americas Act to Drive Sustainability and Innovation

The Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI) is engaging members to signal support for the Americas Trade and Investment Act (Americas Act) recently introduced to congress by Senators Bill Cassidy ad Michael Bennet. This move marks a significant milestone in promoting sustainability and innovation within the textile care and fashion industry. This bill aims to advance a circular economy, where resources are reused, repaired, and recycled to minimize waste and environmental impact.

Leading the Way in Sustainability

“This initiative was brought to our attention by Chris White with America’s Best Cleaners, who is a member of the American Circular Textiles Group,” said Mary Scalco, DLI CEO. “Legislation that will bring more clothes to drycleaners is something we don’t have to think too hard about supporting. Members can show their support for the Americas Act by contacting their elected officials using the tools on our website (DLIonline.org/AmericasAct)”.

DLI members can play a crucial role in advocating for sustainable practices within the textile sector. Passage of the bill would benefit drycleaners by providing access to new business opportunities, including textile recycling programs, repair and alteration services, and sustainable practices that attract environmentally conscious consumers.

Supporting Groundbreaking Legislation

The Americas Act proposes more than $14 billion in incentives to promote domestic textile reuse, repair, and recycling. The American Circular Textiles Group instrumentally shaped key sections of the bill, specifically Sections 232 and 199b, which focus on textile circularity. DLI members’ support for this legislation will help drive positive change and support a more sustainable industry.

DLI invites its members and other industry stakeholders to support this transformative initiative. Together, industry professionals can influence positive change, amplify impact, and create a more sustainable world for future generations.
